10 Beauty Tips & Tricks

1. Dark foundation? No problem, mix it with your moisturizer.

If you have a foundation that is a shade or two darker than your skin tone, a couple of pea size dots of your moisturizer can lighten the foundation enough for you to be able to wear it. The moisturizer can also help in creating a more skin like layer.

On the other hand, you can tint your moisturizer if you add a small drop of your foundation with it, maybe for a day where you are not in the mood for something high maintenance.

2. Using your lipstick as cream blush.
Dabbing your favourite lipstick onto your cheeks and stippling it with a brush can create a very natural flushed look. It can be worn alone or as a base for another blush to get a long wearing, customized blush. It is also a good way of experimenting with colors to see what shade(s) of blush suits you best.

3. Depotting eyeshadows into customizable palettes.
Depotting eyeshadows, blushes, or any compact will save you some space and you'll start using your neglected shadows more often.

4. Recycling your Mac and Lush products.

5. Castor oil for hair growth.
Castor Oil
Castor oil has a variety of uses, some of which are to improve the skin and make it youthful; and hair growth. Moreover, if applied on the eyelashes and eyebrows, it has the same result as expensive cosmetics that are found in pharmacies. It is true, some of the best treatments are in your kitchen cabinet.

6. Reuse your old mascara wands.
Mascaras are all about the product inside the tube and the wands they come with. If you are ever out of your favourite expensive mascara try cleaning the wand and use it with another mascara, chances are you are going to get the same result. The wand can also be used to comb lashes if they ever get clumpy. And if your eyebrows ever need some shaping, then why not use the wand as a spoolie.

7. Always look for dupes!
Save yourself some money and look for lipstick dupes. Long gone are the days where the only good makeup brands were the expensive ones. There are some amazing substitutes in the drugstore and they're just as good, even better sometimes. Drugstore brands have totally upped their game, you've got brands like Revlon, Maybelline, NYX, and more that have some lipsticks to die for.

8. Stop wasting money on brush cleansers, use baby shampoo.
There is no need to waste money on brush cleansers when one of the best ways to deep clean brushes is by using baby shampoo. If it is good for babies then it is good and safe for your brushes, right?!

9. Ask for samples.
Whenever you buy cosmetics from a store don't be shy to ask for samples. Some employees are nice enough to give you some without being asked but others (*cough*Sephora*cough*) aren't. Do not always splurge on a product thinking you might like it. Asking for a sample can end up saving you a lot of money.

10. Store your makeup in your fridge.
Store makeup in the refrigerator to prolong the life of your cosmetics, especially if the product is already opened. This tip is useful in countries that are hot and humid like UAE. For all you gals that travel regularly, do not forget to pop them in the fridge before you leave.

  4. Hi Sarah! I have been an Instagram follower for a while, and was thrilled to see you started following me back this week!!! Eeeeek!

Wanted to share one of my fave beauty hacks - if you need to sharpen a lip/eye pencil (especially if it is a soft formula), pop it in the freezer overnight and sharpen the next day. Perfect point, and no smeary mess in the sharpener!

PS - love your makeup looks on Insta!

    1. if youre planning to mask the scent of castor oil dont bother. you wouldn't even smell it. here's how you use it: http://www.livestrong.com/article/86243-apply-castor-oil-hair/

    2. ohh. okay. but would it matter if I use it with other essential oils anyway?

    3. it's alright if you use it with a carrier oil or essential oil. just make sure that you just add a few drops of them and not pour it to the mix. castor oil should always be the priority. i recommend giving your 1 full cup of castor oil with 2 drops of rose absolute oil. pick the one that's mixed with jojoba oil so your hair gets some vitamins.
